Six Sets of Evidences against Illusion Theory for Strange
Gravity Phenomena on Gravity Hills and in Mystery Spots

By Sing H. Lin, Ph.D., E-Mail: singhlin@gmail.com
Abstract

Many people have observed a strange Gravity Hill Mystery on strange slopes of paved roads at hundreds of
locations all over the world. Vehicles with transmission shifted to neutral gear and brake released simply roll
uphill on such Gravity Hills. Furthermore, in several known Mystery Spots, a well known Shrink-and-Grow
Mystery is the significant change of relative heights of two persons when they switch their standing positions
on a level demonstration platform. Many people simply dismiss these two strange mysteries as illusion.

In my 22-year research, I have found six sets of evidences to show that (1) the Illusion Theory is wrong for
these two famous mysteries, and (2) the Gravity Hill Mystery and the Shrink-and-Grow Mystery are real and
are caused by existence of significant abnormal local gravity at those special locations of Gravity Hills and
Mystery Spots.

Note: I started presenting this first companion web page on January 3, 2007 soon after my Travelogue
website ( WWW.SHLTRIP.COM ) was established in December 2006. I have been revising and updating this
web page from time to time as I gain more insight and relevant information in my research on this project.
Most recent update of this web page was on August 2, 2015. As of August 27, 2015, this web page has
been accessed 10,888 times by my friends and strangers all over the world.

I presented highlights of this web page in a meeting of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)
New York Section in Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus, on April 24, 2015. Such presentation was
reported on pages 18 and 19 of (IEEE) New York Monitor at:

1.  Gravity Hills and Mystery Spots

1.1 Definitions of Gravity Hills and Gravity Hill Mystery in my Two Companion Web Pages

Many people have encountered or observed and reported a strange gravity mystery on strange slopes of
paved roads at hundreds of special locations all over the world. People pour water on the paved surface of
such strange slope and water flows uphill. People put plastic water bottle or basket ball on the paved surface
of such strange slope and the plastic water bottle with water or the basket ball rolls uphill. Vehicles with
transmission shifted to neutral gear and brake released simply roll uphill on such strange slopes of paved
roads. Such strange gravity mystery has been known for at least 80 years.

More detailed information with eight pictures of a sample famous Gravity Hill known as Magnetic Hill in
eastern Canada are given in my Website A at:

Website A: http://
shltrip.com/My_Personal_Experience_on_a_Gravity_Hill.html

Historically, there are many kinds of names being used for such Gravity Hills at different parts of the world,
such as gravity hill, antigravity hill, Confusion Hill, Magnetic Hill, Magic Hill, Mystery Hill, Magnetic Spot,
Electric Brae, Spook Hill, Anti-Gravity Point, Strange Slope, etc.

In my two companion web pages on this topic, I shall use “Gravity Hill” to refer to all such strange slopes of
paved roads exhibiting such strange Gravity Hill Mystery at hundreds of known special locations all over the
world. Several sample lists of the local names and the locations of these hundreds of Gravity Hills are
collected in Section 9 in this web page.

My second companion web page entitled "Dark Matter based Theory for Mystery Spots and Gravity Hills" is
at:

http://
www.shltrip.com/Oregon-Vortex.html

The length of Gravity Hills usually is a few hundred feet, but it varies from one Gravity Hill to another Gravity
Hill.

1.1.1 My Personal Experience on Gravity Hills

I visited the Magnetic Hill near Moncton in eastern Canada in 2005. I have also visited three Gravity Hills in
Pennsylvania and two Gravity Hills in New Jersey. With these visits, I got plenty of personal experience on
such Gravity Hill Mystery.

1.2 Definitions of Shrink-and-Grow Mystery in Mystery Spots in my Two Companion Web Pages

At Oregon Vortex in Oregon, USA and several other similar known Mystery Spots, the well known Shrink-and-
Grow Mystery is the significant change (by several inches) of relative heights of two persons when they
switch their standing positions on a level platform inside the Mystery Spot area.

Please see the following three movie clips of demonstration of Shrink-and-Grow Mystery at three different
Mystery Spots:

Demonstration of Shrink-and-Grow mystery at Mystery Spot near Santa Cruz in California, USA at:
https://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVGpTh66h30

Demonstration of Shrink-and-Grow mystery at Cosmos Mystery Area in South Dakota, USA at:
https://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeoJM9LP_Lc

Demonstration of Shrink-and-Grow mystery at Oregon Vortex in Oregon, USA at:
https://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=743oy55RqX4

There are more movie clips on Shrink-and-Grow mystery posted on YouTube website by several other
visitors showing their excitement from their trips to watch such Shrink-and-Grow mystery.

In such demonstrations, usually the tour guide uses a carpenter's (bubble based) level to convince the group
of tourists watching this Shrink-and-Grow demonstration that the demonstration platform is level because the
liquid bubble in the horizontal tube in carpenter's level is in the middle position indicating a level ground. Some
visitors have also brought in their own carpenter’s levels which also show that the demonstration platform is
level.

Notice that in these two demonstrations at Cosmos Mystery Area in South Dakota and at Mystery Spot in
California, the two persons are separated by only about two feet and yet their heights can change so much
when they switch their standing positions.

1.2.1  Everybody See the Same Shrink-and-Grow Mystery No Matter Where They Stand To Watch

Such mystery demonstration is usually repeated many times every day for many tour groups to see.
Sometimes, a large visitor group comes with large number of visitors surrounding the demonstration.
Different visitors see the demonstration from different angles, different distances and different positions. But
all visitors see the same mystery of substantial change in relative height no matter what angle, what distance
or what position that the visitors are looking at the demonstration. Sometimes, the tour guide let two visitors
stand on the two positions to do the demonstration. Such two visitors as demonstrators looking at each other
also see the same surprising significant change in their relative height.

It is hard for me to believe that this is an illusion because seeing this Shrink-and-Grow mystery does not
require the viewer or the photographer to be at certain special angle or special distance or special position or
special trick to be able to see such significant change in relative height.

It is quite entertaining to all visitors even though nobody, not even the tour guide, know why the relative height
change so much when the two persons switch their standing positions on the level ground.

1.2.2  Several Known Mystery Spots

Similar Shrink-and-Grow Mystery exists at several Mystery Spots such as:

Oregon Vortex at 4303 Sardine Creek Left Fork Rd, Gold Hill, in southern Oregon, USA.,

Mystery Spot at 465 Mystery Spot Rd, Santa Cruz, in California,

Cosmos Mystery Area at 24040 Cosmos Rd, Rapid City, South Dakota,

Mystery Spot at 150 Martin Lake Road, St. Ignace, Michigan,

Montana Vortex at 7800 Hwy 2 East, Columbia Falls, in Montana,

Confusion Hill at 75001 N. Hwy. 101, Piercy, in California,

Teton Mystery (Spot) at 9800 South US Highway 89, Jackson, in Wyoming,

etc.

The typical size of such Mystery Spot area is about 200 to 300 feet in diameter but varies from one Mystery
Spot to another Mystery Spot. The distance between the two standing positions on the demonstration
platform may be about two feet to six feet depending on the location of the Mystery Spot.

Historically, there are several kinds of names being used for such Mystery Spot at different locations, such
as Oregon Vortex, Montana Vortex, Cosmos Mystery Area, Mystery Spot, Mystery Hill, Confusion Hill, Teton
Mystery, etc.

In my two companion web pages on this topic, I shall use Mystery Spots to refer to these special locations
exhibiting such Shrink-and-Grow Mystery.

1.2.3. My Personal First Hand Experience of Shrink-and-Grow Mystery

I visited the Mystery Spots near Santa Cruz, California twice: first time in 1993 and the second time in 2012.

I visited Oregon Vortex in 2004 with pictures on my web page at:

http://
shltrip.com/My_Personal_Experience_in_a_Mystery_Spot.html

I visited Mystery Hill in North Carolina in 2014 with pictures as shown on my web page at:

http://
www.shltrip.com/Mystery_Hill_NC.html

With such visits, I got plenty of my personal experience on such Shrink-and-Grow Mystery.

1.3 The Illusion Theory

Many people simply dismiss such strange Gravity Hill Mystery on those Gravity Hills and Shrink-and-Grow
Mystery in those known Mystery Spots as illusion. The Illusion Theory asserts that: (1) the gravity is normal
at all such special locations of Gravity Hills and Mystery Spots, (2) all the observed strange Gravity Hill
Mystery in all those Gravity Hills and Shrink-and-Grow Mystery in those known Mystery Spots are due
entirely to illusion in human perception.

Some people have also done some bubble based tests and measurements on some of those Gravity Hills
and claimed that they have proved that it is an illusion. All these tests are based on liquid bubble to establish
the critical reference plane for measurements.

1.4 Main Goals of this Web Page

The main goal of my first web page is to present six sets of important evidences, found in my 22 year
research, to show that the Illusion Theory is wrong for Gravity Hill Mystery and Shrink-and-Grow Mystery.

2. First Evidence against Illusion Theory from my Personal Experience at Magnetic Hill in eastern
Canada

This evidence comes from my own personal experience on the famous Gravity Hill known as Magnetic Hill
near Moncton in eastern Canada as described in details with 8 pictures on my Website A at:

Website A: http://
www.shltrip.com/My_Personal_Experience_on_a_Gravity_Hill.html

2.1. Evidence as Viewed from Top of Magnetic Hill in Canada
Figure 2 - The Illusion theory asserts that (1) the human perceived bottom of the Magnetic Hill is “higher” than
the human perceived top of the Magnetic Hill due to illusion effect, and (2) all those vehicles are rolling downhill
on the Magnetic Hill even though everybody see those vehicles as rolling uphill.

From my viewpoint based on my personal firsthand experience on the Magnetic Hill, this is a strong evidence
that the bottom of the Magnetic Hill is indeed lower than the top of the Magnetic Hill such that we cannot see
the bottom from the waiting area on the top of the Magnetic Hill as shown on Figure 1.

If the bottom of the slope were “higher” than the top of the slope as asserted by the "Illusion Theory" in Figure
2, then we, standing on waiting area, should be able to see the "higher" bottom.

However, the fact that on the waiting area in Pictures 7 and 8 on website A, we cannot see the bottom of the
Magnetic Hill  is a strong evidence that (A) the bottom of the slope is indeed lower than the top of the slope, as
shown in Pictures 2, 3, 4 and 5 and (B) this strange Gravity Hill Mystery of vehicles rolling uphill is real and is
NOT due to illusion.

2.2 Evidence as View from the Bottom of Gravity Hill (Magnetic Hill)

A picture taken by other people from the bottom of the slope of Magnetic Hill looking toward the top of the
slope can be seen at the following website:

http://
www.forensicgenealogy.info/images/mag_hill_macton_reverse.jpg

This picture shows that this camera at the bottom of the slope cannot see the large waiting area for the waiting
line of vehicles at the top of the slope beyond the instructor and the orange color post.

If the bottom of the slope were higher than the top of the slope, as asserted by the Illusion Theory, this camera
at the "higher" bottom would be able to see the large area of waiting line of vehicles beyond the position of the
instructors and the orange post.

The fact that this camera at the bottom cannot see the large waiting area on the top of slope is evidence that
the bottom of the slope is indeed lower than the top of the slope.

Similarly, many other people have also taken movie clips when their cars in neutral gear were rolling up this
Magnetic Hill near Moncton as shown on the following sample YouTube websites:

http://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ml6E45x825M&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLgdZGbOclk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhr0owdDLqo&feature=related

In these three movie clips, notice that when their cameras in their cars are pointing to the top of the slope
(where the instructors and the area for the waiting line of vehicles are located), the videos show that these
cameras cannot see the large waiting area on the top of the slope.

The fact that these cameras at the bottom of the Gravity Hill cannot see the large area of waiting line of
vehicles on the top of the slope is consistent evidence that the perceived bottom of the slope is indeed lower
than the top of the slope.

Therefore, both the views in Pictures 7 and 8 from the area of the waiting line of vehicles on the top of the
slope and the views from the bottom of the slope consistently indicate that the perceived bottom of the slope is
indeed lower than the perceived top of the slope.

Some people have been using the argument on how the roadside trees and shrubs are tilted to create the
illusion. Here on the Magnetic Hill, I am not using how the roadside trees and shrubs are tilted to determine
which end of the slope is higher. My criterion is very simple here. If the bottom of the slope were higher as
asserted by the illusion theory, we should be able to see the higher "Bottom" from the waiting area. But the
fact is that we cannot see the bottom of the slope from the waiting area. Such simple criterion convinces me
that the human perceived bottom of Magnetic Hill is indeed lower than the top.

This is the first evidence such that I do not believe in the Illusion Theory. This personal experience at Magnetic
Hill in eastern Canada gives me confidence that the Illusion Theory is wrong and motivates me in my 22 year
research to search for other additional independent evidences against the Illusion Theory. That is how I found
the other five sets of evidences as described in the following sections.

3. Second Set of Evidence against Illusion Theory - Gravity Hills on Coastal Roads:

3.1 Lack of Horizontal Reference as support for Illusion Theory

Believers of Illusion Theory say that people often cannot tell which end of the slope of a Gravity Hill is really
higher because there is no reference horizontal plane or horizontal line to help people to make correct
determination. Therefore, human perceptions of the top and of the bottom of the slope are often wrong
because of the illusion effect created by the nearby trees, shrubs and environment.

But several known Gravity Hills are on coastal roads where the vast horizontal line of the nearby ocean is
readily visible as the horizontal reference to all visitors of such coastal Gravity Hills. Existence of such coastal
Gravity Hills, described in the following, refutes the argument of lack of horizontal reference as a support for
Illusion Theory.

3.2. Wrong Measurement Results as further support for Illusion Theory

However, the Illusion Theory still asserts that human perceptions of the top and of the bottom of such coastal
Gravity Hills are still "wrong" because their supporting bubble based measurements by carpenter’s level or by
land survey instrument indicate that the human perceived bottom is “higher” than the human perceived top of
such coastal Gravity Hill.

On the other hand, the four sets of evidences in Sections 4 to 7 indicate that significant abnormal local gravity
has been detected at several special locations in the known Mystery Spots. The key defect in these existing
bubble based measurements by carpenter’s level and land survey instrument on Gravity Hills supporting Illusion
Theory is that the surveyors never checked to see if the local gravity is normal or not. They just assumed
(erroneously) that the local gravity is normal and went ahead to do the measurements blindly. In this way, the
liquid level bubble and the plumb line used in such land survey measurements are affected by the significant
abnormal local gravity on such Gravity Hills such that the measurement results are wrong as explained in more
details in Appendix E with Figure 1 and Figure 2 in Website A.

3.3. First Example of Coastal Gravity Hills

One example of such coastal Gravity Hills is known as Electric Brae on coastal road A719 in Ayrshire, Scotland
as described in the following Wikipedia website with 2 pictures:

http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Brae

Two better pictures of this coastal Gravity Hill showing the visible nearby ocean and its horizontal line can be
seen by clicking the following links:

http://
www.flickr.com/photos/sharpbynature/1261888294/?q=electric%20brae%20photos

http://fjstuart.blogspot.com/2012/10/the-electric-brae.html

Several pictures on the following website also provide some nice views of the blue ocean near the coastal road
A719 near the area of the well known Gravity Hill, Electric Brae:

http://
bikeaboot.lawrab.com/2010/08/linwood-to-electric-brae.html

The following YouTube website shows three people on bicycles rolling uphill without peddling on this coastal
Gravity Hill (Electric Brae, coastal road 719):

http://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRuEUSiMalk

Again, this movie shows that the nearby ocean and its horizontal line are readily visible by everybody on this
coastal Gravity Hill (the coastal road A719).

More movie clips in the following showing vehicles rolling uphill on this coastal Gravity Hill near the ocean can
be seen at the following YouTube websites:

http://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=AofTlPpCIxQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBSRLtLBvpA&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDhLTozHXlI&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsxrAGGcauk&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w8dMeysxaY&feature=related

Again, these movie clips all show that the nearby ocean and its horizontal line are readily visible by everybody
on this coastal Gravity Hill on the coastal road A719.

Therefore, the human perception of the top and the bottom of such coastal Gravity Hill should be correct
because the reference horizontal line is readily visible in the nearby ocean. This means the Gravity Hill Mystery
is real on such coastal Gravity Hill where vehicles roll uphill.

The first evidence from Magnetic Hill and the second evidence from this coastal Gravity Hill encourage me to
continue my search for more independent evidences against Illusion Theory.

3.4. More Examples of Known Coastal Gravity Hills

The second example of coastal Gravity Hill is known as Magnetic Hill, located on the coastal road A27 between
Ballabeg and the Round Table crossroads, at Ronague near Colby on Isle of Man in the Irish Sea in Great
Britain. On such coastal Gravity Hill, visitors can see vehicles rolling uphill and also see the reference horizontal
line on the nearby ocean as shown in the following YouTube videos:

http://
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbUmOxytkZo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tNyPgLIUh4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_Ewl43YO5k&feature=related

In addition to these two examples of Gravity Hills on coastal roads, there are more reported Gravity Hills on
coastal roads such as:

Known as Anti-Gravity Point on a coastal road at a place called Mirbat which is about 40 km east of coastal
City of Salalah in southern part of Oman (on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula), and

A Gravity Hill in Cascais, on a coastal road N247 on a hill near Malveira da Serra and Guincho Beach, West of
Lisbon, Portugal.

3.5. Important Lesson learned from these Coastal Gravity Hills

These movie clips and pictures on coastal Gravity Hills show that the vast horizontal line of the nearby ocean is
readily visible as the horizontal reference to all visitors to these coastal Gravity Hills. These coastal Gravity Hills
refute the argument of the lack of horizontal reference as support for the Illusion Theory described in Section
3.1.

The remaining four sets of evidences in sections 4 to 7 and Appendix E in Website A show that the bubble level
based measurement results to support Illusion Theory are wrong because of the influence of the significant
abnormal local gravity at these special locations of Gravity Hills and Mystery Spots. The existence of significant
abnormal local gravity refutes the bubble based measurement results by carpenter’s level or by land survey
instruments for support of Illusion Theory.

These coastal Gravity Hills teach us that when the bubble based measurements by carpenter’s level or land
survey instrument show that the human perceived bottom is “higher” than human perceived top of a gravity hill,
watch out! It is very likely that the bubble based measurement results are wrong and human perception is
correct on such Gravity Hill because of the existence of significant abnormal local gravity at such special
location.

In other words, when the bubble based measurements are contrary to the human perceptions on which end of
a Gravity Hill is higher, such contrary may become a detector of existence of significant abnormal local gravity
causing the bubble based measurements to be wrong and to be in contrary to human perceptions.

4. The Third Set of Evidence against Illusion Theory - Detection of Abnormal Gravity at Mystery Spot
in Michigan by Three Surveyors

According to the website of Mystery Spot in Michigan, in early 1950s’, three surveyors discovered the Mystery
Spot at 150 Martin Lake Road, St. Ignace, Michigan, USA. They stumbled across an area of land where their
surveying equipment did not seem to work properly. No matter how many times they tried to level their tripod,
through the use of a plum-bob or bubble level, the plum-bob would always be drawn far to the east, even as
the bubble level was reading level as stated on the website of this Mystery Spot in Michigan at:

http://
www.mysteryspotstignace.com/

What this means is that the local gravity in that particular area is so abnormal that their land survey instrument
could not function properly.

More reports on Internet of difficulties in using land survey instruments at Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz,
California and in Oregon Vortex in Oregon because of abnormal local gravity are collected in my website at:

http://
www.shltrip.com/Dynamics_of_Gravity-Mysteries.html

Such detected significant abnormal local gravity at these three locations is the third evidence against Illusion
Theory because Illusion Theory asserts that the gravity is normal at all these special locations of Gravity Hills
and Mystery Spots.

4.1. Detector #1 for Detection of Significant Abnormal Local Gravity

For the purpose of discussion in my two companion web pages, I shall call such strange behavior of land
survey instrument as the Detector #1 for detection of significant abnormal local gravity.

5. Fourth Evidence against Illusion Theory - Asymmetric Pendulum

The fourth set of evidence against Illusion Theory is asymmetric behavior of pendulum observed and measured
in Oregon Vortex in Oregon, USA. The idea is quite simple: If the local gravity were normal at Oregon Vortex
as asserted by the Illusion Theory, then a pendulum should swing symmetrically as expected. But, if the local
gravity in Oregon Vortex is abnormal with a significant horizontal component of gravity, then the simple regular
pendulum will show asymmetric behavior because of the horizontal component of gravity.

The fact in Oregon Vortex and in other Mystery Spots is that the pendulum swings from its equilibrium position
is much longer in one direction than it is in opposite direction.

The following Website B:

Website B: http://
www.vectorpub.com/Drasticchange%203-27-05.htm

indicates that pendulum experiments have been done at Oregon Vortex in Oregon, USA. Researchers push the
weight at the bottom of the pendulum away from its equilibrium position, and found that it is harder to push in
one direction vs. opposite direction. Their measurements in Oregon Vortex indicate that the difference in
required forces to push the weight in the two opposite directions is about 20%.

This measured result is a good evidence for the existence of significant abnormal local gravity in such special
area. It is, therefore, a good evidence against the Illusion Theory which asserts that the gravity is normal in all
these special locations of Mystery Spots and Gravity Hills.

5.1. Detector #2 for Detection of Significant Abnormal Local Gravity

The asymmetric behavior of a pendulum is the Detector #2 for detection of significant abnormal local gravity.

6. Fifth Set of Evidence against Illusion Theory – Measured Strength of Local Gravity Differing
Significantly from Normal Value

According to the information in the Website B, N. Nelson and I. Shnaper had conducted an experiment and
concluded that the value of gravity g was equal to 8.89 m/sec2 in Oregon Vortex. This is about 10% smaller
than that of normal value of g = 9.88 m/sec2.

They obtained this value by performing a simple experiment in Oregon Vortex by hanging a brass plumb bob
from a rafter. They measured the length of the string and timed the swings to calculate the value of the gravity
g in the Oregon Vortex.

Their measured results indicate that the strength of gravity in Oregon Vortex is 10 % less than that of normal
gravity outside of Oregon Vortex. This means the strength of the abnormal local gravity in that special area is
at least 10% of the normal earth gravity on the earth surface.

Such measured significant abnormal local gravity is the fifth evidence against Illusion Theory because Illusion
Theory asserts that the gravity is normal in all these special locations.

6.1. Detector #3 for Detection of Significant Abnormal Local gravity

The measured strength of local gravity that differs significantly from the normal strength of normal earth gravity
on earth surface is the Detector #3 for detection of significant abnormal local gravity.

7. Sixth Set of Evidence against Illusion Theory - Detection of Abnormal Gravity by Gravitational Time
Dilation

Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity predicts that the closer the clock is to the source of strong gravity, the
more slowly time passes. In other words, clocks which are far from massive bodies (or at higher gravitational
potentials) run faster, and clocks close to massive bodies (or at lower gravitational potentials) run slower. This
gravitational time dilation has been verified and demonstrated experimentally many times as described in the
following Wikipedia website:

http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravitational_time_dilation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Positioning_System

According to Website B on Internet, Nick Nelson has been doing research on gravity mysteries of Oregon
Vortex for about 30 years. He worked in Oregon Vortex for two years in 1999 and 2000. He also visited
several other Mystery Spots and has substantial experience and knowledge on various gravity mysteries in
these Mystery Spots. Based on the concept of gravitational time dilation from Theory of General Relativity,
Nick Nelson, with help from the management at the Oregon Vortex, performed an important experiment in 1999
and 2000 using four identical digital watches to measure the gravitational time dilation inside and outside of
Oregon Vortex. The results, after 90 days of measurement, indicated that time in the Oregon Vortex run a
quarter of a second a day slower inside than outside as described in Section 6.3 entitled "Time anomalies" and
in the Second Part of the Proposal in Website B on Internet.

Those same sections also mentioned that Doug Vogt, Nick Nelson and Dr. Nikolay Barashkov performed
similar important measurements inside and outside the Vortex at Confusion Hill at Piercy in northern California,
Magnetic Hill in Penngrove, California and Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, California in 1996 to 2002 time frame.
These measurements all found similar and significant gravitational time dilation in such Mystery Spots.

That same Website B also mentioned that similar gravitational time dilations have also been observed in
several locations in Russia. Some Russian scientists have been investigating and doing research on such
strange places in Russia with such gravitational time dilation.

In southwestern China in the mountainous area of Yunnan and Tibet, there is a very special valley known as
Shangri La as described in the 1933 novel "Lost Horizon" written by British author James Hilton. That book was
also turned into a movie, also called Lost Horizon, in 1937 by director Frank Capra. According to this novel, a
special feature of Shangri La is that people living in Shangri La age much slower than people living outside of
Shangri La. (However, the novel and the movie might have dramatized and exaggerated the effects of
gravitational time dilation.) The ancient Tibetan scriptures indicate the existence of seven such special places
according to the following Wikipedia website:

http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shangri-La

May be it is also worthwhile for some scientists to seek out such special location(s) including the well known
Strange Slope near ShenYang in northeast China plus many other similar Strange Slopes and to do the clock
speed measurements to see if significant gravitational time dilation indeed exists in such special locations in
China.

Such information indicates that Mystery Spots may exist not only in USA as listed in Section 1.2.2, but also in
other parts of the world such as Russia, China, etc.

7.1 Sixth Set of Evidence against Illusion Theory

Such measured results of significant gravitational time dilation in Oregon Vortex in Oregon, in Confusion Hill in
northern California, in Magnetic Hill in Penngrove, California and in Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, California are
proof that the local gravity in these Mystery Spots is significantly abnormal based on Einstein’s Theory of
General Relativity. This is an important evidence against Illusion Theory because Illusion Theory asserts that
the gravity is normal in all those Gravity Hills and Mystery Spots and all the observed strange gravity
phenomena are due entirely to illusion in human perception.

7.2. Detector #4 for Detection of Significant Abnormal Local Gravity

The measurement of significant gravitational time dilation is Detector #4 for detection of significant abnormal
local gravity.

8. More on Traditional Illusion Theory

The Illusion Theory for the strange gravity phenomena on Gravity Hills and Mystery Spots has been known for
many years. Many people believe in the Illusion Theory. There are several reasons contributing to such
popularity of Illusion Theory for so many years, including:

(1)        Many people are unaware of the six sets of evidences against Illusion Theory as described in this web
page,

(2)        Many people are unaware of the serious defect in the erroneous bubble based measurement results
supporting the Illusion Theory as described in Appendix E in Website A.

(3)        Many people visited only feeble Gravity Hills and got ambiguous feeling of the weak strange
phenomenon as described in more details in Section 7 on my website A. These people then easily get the
feeling that such feeble and ambiguous strange phenomenon may be just an illusion.

(4)        The complicated science, especially involving the illusive and mysterious dark matters, associated with
the Gravity Hill Mystery and with Shrink-and-Grow Mystery as described in my companion second web page,
is too difficult for many tourists to deal with. It is much easier to say it is just an illusion and sweep all the
complicated and hard stuff of science under the rug.

(5)        For commercial and business purpose, a tilted Mystery House and several artificially created illusion
tricks inside or near the tilted Mystery House are added to create more “mysteries” and more fun in these
Mystery Spots. Such additions are quite successful from commercial viewpoint to attract more visitors and
more income for the business of Mystery Spots. But from scientific viewpoint, such additions are unfortunate.
Such addition of tilted Mystery House and artificial tricks are quite obvious illusions to many visitors. In this
way, many people naturally believe that all mysteries in such Mystery Spots are just illusions.

This unfortunate effect of “Throw out the baby with the bathwater” caused many people to believe that the
Gravity Hill Mystery and the Shrink-and-Grow Mystery are just parts of that whole package of illusion tricks.

From scientific viewpoint, the Gravity Hill Mystery and the Shrink-and-Grow Mystery are real and can stand on
their own feet without the need for the tilted Mystery House to confuse the issue. In fact, there is no tilted
Mystery House on all those hundreds of Gravity Hills all over the world. Furthermore, if you view the video
recordings of the Shrink-and-Grow demonstrations in Section 1.2, you will see that the demonstration platforms
are outside and far away from the tilted Mystery House. In other words, the Shrink-and-Grow Mystery and the
Gravity Hill Mystery do not depend on the tilted Mystery House to create illusions.

(6)        Some people subconsciously assume that normal earth gravity is the only force pulling on the vehicles
rolling on the Gravity Hill (i.e., assuming that the local gravity is normal). With such assumption, they believe
that whichever direction the vehicle is going on the Gravity Hill, that is the downhill direction because the normal
earth gravity always pulls the vehicle to go downhill. If the slope of the road and its surrounding trees, shrubs
etc. make people feel that it is an uphill slope, then it must be an illusion because normal earth gravity always
pulls the vehicle to go downhill.

But the four sets of evidences in Sections 4 to 7 show that there is significant abnormal local gravity with
significant horizontal component of gravity at these special locations of Gravity Hills and Mystery Spots.
Therefore, the assumption of normal earth gravity on Gravity Hills by many people is not valid. In addition to the
normal earth gravity, there is an additional gravity force coming from another source pulling on the vehicle. Let
me use a visible extra force to make the point more visible and clear in the following:

In many mining operations, they use a powerful motored winch at the top of a steep slope and a strong steel
cable to pull the mining cart to move uphill. In such case, the normal earth gravity is not the only force pulling on
the mining cart, there is the powerful force on the steel cable coming from the powerful motor winch on the top
of the hill to pull the mining cart to move uphill. In such case with two forces pulling on the mining cart, the
direction that the mining cart is moving is NOT always downhill because normal earth gravity is NOT the only
force pulling on the mining cart.

The situation on the Gravity Hill is similar to that of the mining cart on the uphill slope except that the visible
steel cable is replaced by the invisible extra gravity force from the high density dark matter and the powerful
motor winch on the top of the mining uphill slope is replaced by an invisible compact nugget of high density dark
matter (Please see my companion second web page on this compact nugget of high density dark matter). In
such situation similar to the mining uphill slope, the direction where the vehicle is moving on the Gravity Hill is
NOT always downhill because normal earth gravity is NOT the only force pulling on the vehicle on a Gravity Hill.
The extra force from the compact nugget of dark matter is pulling the vehicle to move uphill. It is a real uphill
slope and NOT an illusion. The vehicle needs extra force to pull it to roll up the real uphill slope just like the
mining cart.

The four sets of evidences in Sections 4 to 7 indicate that such extra abnormal gravity force exists at these
special locations of Gravity Hills and Mystery Spots.

8.1 Required Strength of Abnormal Local Gravity at Gravity Hills

The inclination angle of the slope on most Gravity Hills on typical paved road is usually quite small and gentle in
the order of 2 to 5 degrees. The slopes on some feeble Gravity Hills are even smaller in the order of one
degree or less. For such small inclination angles, the required component of abnormal local gravity force along
the slope of the Gravity Hill to pull the vehicle (in neutral gear and brake released) to roll uphill is only a few
percent of the strength of normal downward earth gravity.

As an example, the measurement at Oregon Vortex as described in Section 6 indicates that the strength of
abnormal local gravity in the Oregon Vortex is as strong as 10% or more of normal earth gravity on earth
surface. Such measured result indicates that the strange source of abnormal local gravity is capable of
producing the abnormal local gravity as strong as 10% or more of the normal earth gravity on earth surface.

8.2 Significant Abnormal Local Gravity

Therefore, the term “significant abnormal local gravity” in my two companion web pages means that the
strength of the abnormal local gravity is in the order of a few percent or more of the strength of normal earth
gravity on earth surface.

As explained in my companion second web page, the source of such significant abnormal local gravity is a very
small and compact nugget of high density dark matter with a mass density at least 1,000 times greater than
that of average ordinary matter on earth surface. When such compact nugget of high density dark matter is on
the top of a Gravity Hill, its abnormal gravity along the slope of the Gravity Hill can be as strong as 10% or
more of normal earth gravity as indicated by the measurement in Oregon Vortex. Therefore, the strength of the
abnormal local gravity is certainly strong enough to pull a vehicle (in neutral gear and brake released) to roll
uphill on the gentle slopes of those Gravity Hills.

9. Many Other Locations with Similar Gravity Hill Mystery

In addition to the Magnetic Hill near Moncton in eastern Canada described in my Website A listed above and
several coastal Gravity Hills described in Section 3, there are hundreds of other similar Gravity Hills all over the
world. Several sample long list of known Gravity Hills are available at the following websites:

http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_magnetic_hills

http://userpages.umbc.edu/~frizzell/gravhills.html

http://www.edu-observatory.org/physics-faq/General/roll-uphill.html

http://www.forensicgenealogy.info/contest_362_results.html

There are also many movie-clip reports on YouTube websites of many Gravity Hills at many places all over the
world. Some samples are at the following website:

www.shltrip.com/Many_Video_Reports_On_YouTube.html

10. More on Bubble Based Measurements on Gravity Hills

As reported on Internet, many people have done simple bubble based tests on several known Gravity Hills by
using either a carpenter’s level or a land survey instrument. Such measurements found that the measurement
results are in contrary to the human perceptions on which end of the Gravity Hill is higher.

Based on the lesson learned from the six sets of evidences in Sections 2 to 7, plus the explanation in Appendix
E in Website A, it is likely that the bubble based measurements are wrong because of existence of significant
abnormal local gravity. This means the contrary between bubble based measurement results and the human
perceptions has become a detector of existence of significant abnormal local gravity at those locations of
Gravity Hills.

However, it is still desirable to use one or more of Detectors #1 to #4 for more tests at those special locations
to confirm the existence of significant abnormal local gravity at those special locations.

11. Generalization

Although the six sets of evidences came from experiments, tests and observations at a limited number of
Gravity Hills and Mystery Spots, the simple bubble based tests have been done by many people on many other
known Gravity Hills all over the world. These additional tests have consistently shown the contrary between the
bubble based test results and the human perceptions. Such consistency is a good indication that significant
abnormal local gravity exist at many special locations of Gravity Hills all over the world.

However, it is still desirable to use one or more of Detectors #1 to #4 for more tests at those special locations
to confirm the existence of significant abnormal local gravity at those special locations.

12. Concluding Remarks

The Gravity Hill Mystery on hundreds of Gravity Hills all over the world and the Shrink-and-Grow Mystery in
several known Mystery Spots have been known for more than 80 years. However, most people simply dismiss
all these Gravity Hill Mystery and Shrink-and-Grow Mystery as illusion. For most people who are believers of
Illusion Theory, the simple word “illusion” is the end of story on these Gravity Hill Mystery and Shrink-and-Grow
Mystery. It takes care of everything implying that there is no interesting and challenging science in such strange
gravity phenomena and mysteries. Therefore, these Gravity Hill Mystery and Shrink-and-Grow Mystery have
not attracted much attention of scientists for many years.

John Lister, a Scottish physicist, geologist and mining engineer, is the first scientist who got very interested in
these strange gravity phenomena and mysteries. He did not believe in the simple Illusion Theory and spent
about 30 years from early 1930s to 1959 performing more than 14,000 experiments and measurements to
investigate and to try to understand these strange gravity phenomena at Oregon Vortex in southern Oregon,
USA. Unfortunately, John Lister was too early and the world was not ready yet to solve these gravity puzzles
and mysteries in that early time period. John Lister got so frustrated in his 30 years of investigation at Oregon
Vortex, said "the world isn't yet ready for what goes on here," burned most of his notes and measurement data
and left only a small pamphlet of very brief and cryptic summary of his 30-year of hard work before he passed
away in 1959.

From what I know now as described in my companion second web page at:

http://
www.shltrip.com/Oregon-Vortex.html

the source of significant abnormal local gravity at all these special locations of Mystery Spots and Gravity Hills
is a compact nugget of high density dark matter. Without introducing the concept of dark matter, it is practically
impossible to understand and to explain these two strange gravity mysteries. Therefore, I am lucky to be at the
right time in the golden age of dark matter research. As compared to John Lister, I have the luxury to use the
now available information on dark matter plus some additional key information I found in my 22 years of
research to develop the dark matter based theory that can provide scientific explanation for the well known
Gravity Hill Mystery and Shrink-and-Grow Mystery.

The stonewall of Illusion Theory has been masking the very exciting and challenging science of dark matter
embedded in Gravity Hill Mystery on hundreds of Gravity Hills and Shrink-and-Grow Mystery in several known
Mystery Spots on earth surface. Breaking down the stonewall of Illusion Theory is a necessary and critical step
to open up the treasure door of very exciting frontier of science of dark matters that are trapped and oscillating
in the earth gravity well.

The main goal of my first web page, therefore, is to present six sets of evidences found in my 22 year
research to show that the Illusion Theory is wrong. The first evidence came from my personal experience on
the famous Magnetic Hill in eastern Canada. The second evidence came from my study of several known
Gravity Hills on coastal roads. The remaining four sets of evidences came from the experiments and tests
conducted by Nick Nelson, I. Shnaper, Dr. Nikolay Barashkov, Doug Vogt and three land surveyors in several
Mystery Spots.

Opening this treasure door will enable many scientists to enter to experience the thrill of close encounters with
high density dark matters on earth, and to conduct close-up investigations on the characteristics of dark matter
on earth and on the fine scale structure in the distribution of dark matter on earth.

As soon as the stonewall of the Traditional Illusion Theory is broken down, an immediate challenging question
that pops up is “What is the source of the significant abnormal local gravity at those special locations of Gravity
Hills and Mystery Spots?” This important question is the driving force for my 22 year research leading into my
companion second web page entitled “Dark Matter based Theory for Mystery Spots and Gravity Hills” listed
above.

An immediate application of this dark matter based theory is to resolve a serious dilemma in and to validate the
reported direct detection of dark matters in several deep underground experiments at various locations in the
world as described in my companion second web page listed above.

Figure 1 - This is the configuration of the strange slope on the Magnetic Hill in eastern Canada as shown on
Pictures 1 to 8 on Website A. All visitors see the vehicles in neutral gear and brake released are rolling uphill
from the bottom to the top.

Notice that in Pictures 7 and 8 on my Website A listed above, we cannot see the bottom of the Gravity Hill
(i.e., the Magnetic Hill in eastern Canada) from the area of vehicle waiting line at the top of the Magnetic Hill. I
was standing upright on the top and the waiting area of the Magnetic Hill in taking all these Pictures 1 to 8.
My camera had at least 5 feet of clearance from the ground surface. Even with such 5 feet of clearance at
the waiting area, my camera still cannot see the bottom of the Magnetic Hill.
