Many wild turkeys are roaming free in the hilly residential areas along the street on Antelope Hill in Fremont in
east side of San Francisco Bay Area in California.
Sometime they stroll through the street in the residential neighborhoods.
They have powerful wings and can fly up to the roof or trees.
Three close up views of the wild turkeys.
Many wild turkeys fly up to the roof.
Standing on the roof top, they seem to enjoy the fantastic view of the San Francisco Bay and Silicone Valley
from the roof top on top of the Antelope Hill.
Flying Wild Turkeys:
I took a movie of several wild turkeys flying from the ground level up to the roof as shown in the following
YouTube website:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BzuNRMXwnA&feature=youtu.be
Occasionally, I saw them flying for a longer distance from one side of a canyon to the other side of the canyon.
But I was not quick enough to take a movie of such more impressive longer distance flying wild turkeys. By the
time I pulled out my smartphone, opened the screen, punch in the PIN number to unlock the screen, opened
the camera App and turned on the movie mode, those flying wild turkeys had reached and landed on the far
side of the canyon. So, I missed such rare opportunity to take such action movie.

On June 29, 2017, we saw two mother wild turkeys leading many baby wild turkeys foraging for food among
the dried brown tall grass (in the summer season) on the hilly slope of Antelope Hill in Fremont, California.
On July 21, 2017, I saw the mother wild turkey with five babies again. Couple days ago, hundreds of goats
were sent here to eat the tall grass. With shorter grass and 3-weeks of growth from June 29 to July 21, the
baby turkeys become more visible.
In the spring of 2018, I often see many wild turkeys in action on Antelope Hill in Fremont, California.

It is fascinating to see such colorful, handsome and impressive wild male turkeys when strutting their breeding
plumage. They puff up their body feathers, flare their tails into a vertical fan and droop wings into such
strutting posture, displaying 18 chestnut-brown tail feathers with bold black and white and tan bars. Their
bodies inflate, showing off bronze-green iridescent wing feathers with white bars, displayed in fascinating
layers. The male has a beard of a stringy black feather hanging down from his chest.

The male also has a long protuberance hanging down in front of or to the side of its beak that is called a
snood. It fills with blood during courtship and turns bright red. Dominant males tend to have longer snoods and
can get quite snoody.
Both males and females have a flap of skin called a wattle or dewlap hanging from the chin and connected to
the neck.
The bags of skin hanging from the turkey’s neck are called caruncles. When engorged with blood, the male’s
caruncles turn vivid shades of red, white, or blue, as does the wattle. This is thought to play a role in attracting
a mate.
At sunset time.
Sometimes they are in the backyard on the grassy slope of Antelope Hill.
Turkeys congregate in flocks。 Sometimes these wild turkeys are in the backyard on Antelope Hill.
Sometimes they are under the tree shade.
The golden sun ray at sunset time makes these wild turkeys look even more colorful and impressive.
